The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported that Belmont Healthcare Center earned an overall rating of 3 out of 5 in the first quarter of 2026, according to CMS. This score exceeds the 2.9 average rating among nursing homes across West Virginia.

The facility offered 68 beds, 17 fewer than the state average in West Virginia during the first quarter of 2026. The center cared for an average of 61.3 residents in that timeframe.

Belmont Healthcare Center incurred $251,207 in a single fine and received one penalty as of the first quarter of 2026.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the U.S. older adult population is expanding while the numbers of younger Americans decline. From 2020 to 2024, those age 65 and older grew by 13%, while the population under 18 dropped 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has expanded rapidly over the past 100 years, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that almost half of people in this age category—about 28 million—are likely to need long-term services and support. The research also estimates that more than a third may require nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
