Mountain View Care Center emerged as Jackson County’s largest nursing facility in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

Records indicate the facility offered 120 beds, exceeding Jackson County’s first-quarter average by 29. During that period, the center served an average of 105.4 residents.

CMS assigned Mountain View Care Center an overall rating of 1 out of 5, notably lower than the West Virginia nursing home average score of 2.9.

Ravenswood Village, with 62 available beds, was Jackson County’s second largest nursing facility during this period.

By the close of the first quarter, Mountain View Care Center incurred a single fine totaling $34,496 and was subject to one penalty.

There were two for-profit nursing homes in Jackson County, West Virginia.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the number of the nation’s older adults grows as younger groups decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans ages 65 or older rose by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The U.S. older adult population has soared over the past 100 years, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis finds almost half of this older population—about 28 million—will likely need long-term services and supports, and more than a third are projected to eventually seek nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
