During the first quarter of 2026, Ripley Skilled Nursing Facility Operations Holdings, LLC owned Mountain View Care Center, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This Jackson County nursing home has operated under that ownership since Jan. 12, 2021.

The facility operates on a for-profit basis.

At that time, the nursing home received an overall CMS rating of one, falling below the state nursing home average of 2.9 for West Virginia. CMS assigns ratings to nursing homes using factors such as health inspection results, staffing, and the caliber of care provided to residents.

Data show Mountain View Care Center averaged 105.4 residents daily in the first quarter of 2026, with a capacity of 120 beds. The facility is not currently hospital-based.

Also during that quarter, the nursing home incurred one fine totaling $34,496 and was subject to one penalty.

Jackson County was home to two for-profit nursing homes in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older adult population is rising as the younger population drops. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while those under 18 declined 1.7%. The older adult demographic has significantly expanded over the last century, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report estimates that nearly half of adults in this age group—around 28 million people—might require long-term services and supports. The report also predicts that more than one-third may eventually need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization focused on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
