Code Inspector/Property Maintenance

Reports directly to the Chief Code Official.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for code enforcement and compliance as it relates to disrepair, repair, alterations, additions and demolition of residential and commercial property.
RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Conducts field inspections of structures relevant to enforcement of the City’s building, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and housing codes;
- Enforces various codes relating to construction and zoning, as well as ordinances relating to demolition, sub-standard housing, abandoned and junk vehicles, brush and weeds, rodent and insect infestation, environmental hazards, illegal dumping, etc.;
- Testifies in Magistrate and Municipal Court, as needed
- Issues citations, warnings, and stop work orders for violation of relevant codes and ordinances;
- Confers with occupant, contractors, and property owners concerning code related issues;
- Maintains a variety of records and prepares a variety of reports; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by formal and/or continuing education in relevant areas; three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in the construction trades; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Possession of a valid driver’s license. ICC Certification in at least one construction related discipline within one year of employment.
Knowledge of the laws, codes, ordinances, policies, and procedures affecting the code enforcement operation of the City; principles and practices of construction trades; principles and techniques of inspection work.
